Laila’s 2nd Birthday!

It is really hard to believe that two years has come and gone since our lives became whole.  Looking back on the course of my life, I feel like it didn’t really start until 10:08 am on July 23rd, 2008.  It was at that moment that I felt like I had a true, real purpose and something to live for.  I am not sure anyone who doesn’t have kids can really understand what it feels like and I am sure it doesn’t feel like that for every parent.  But for us, it does.

If you are wondering what the standard for perfection is for a 2 year old, I can show you:

Isn’t she adorable! Ok, maybe I am a bit biased.

Enough with that mushy stuff, on to the party party (as Laila calls birthday parties).  Uncle Scotty and Aunty Tanya were in town for a visit 2 weeks before the actual day, so we had our birthday party and cake then.  It was a lot of fun and she sure did get a LOT of stuff.  She open coloring books, trucks, puzzles, bouncy balls, play food, more coloring books, a ton of books to read, and a awesome new red wagon.

My mom found the most giant cupcake I’ve ever seen, it was pretty neat.

We all sang happy birthday and Laila (with help from Daddy) blew out the candles.   I think there was minimal baby spit on the cupcake, but we ate it regardless.  She had a great day and we did too!

Her actual birthday was much more low key.  We played all morning and I made sure to set aside any chores or thing I had on my agenda.  We just did whatever her heart desired and it was so much fun to be immersed in her world for a few hours. I definitely don’t do that enough.

For lunch we headed downtown to meet Daddy for lunch.  Laila loves to go into the city and see all the big buildings.  She talks about it so much and tells me all kinds of stories while we are driving around looking for places to park.  It was fun for Steve to get to show Laila off, she is such a ham.  She says hi to everyone and really isn’t very shy anymore.

When Daddy got home we gave her our present, a tricycle.  She loves it and calls it her bike.  She is working on the mechanics of peddling and will definitely have the hang of it shortly.  Luckily, we have a long basement that she can ride it in the winter!

All in all, it was  a great day and we are so blessed to have our little Laila bean!
